6 Things To Do In Twain Harte

By VTC Author | 01/28/2024 | Arts & Entertainment, Events, Exploring Tuolumne County, High Sierra

Twain Harte is a small mountain town with as much charm and character as one would expect for a community named for famed authors Mark Twain and Bret Harte. While the town is small, the fun is big. So here are six things to do on any visit to Twain Harte.

Big fun comes on small courses. The Twain Harte Miniature Golf Course is a challenging, 18-hole mini golf course that has been in operation for 70 years. As such, rounds on the course have been family traditions for generations. it might be time to add your family to that list.

Eproson Park is a beautiful facility located just off of downtown, but also looks as if it's nestled in the woods. It's a frequent gathering place for locals and visitors alike, who come for the Streamside Trail, Bocce ball courts, well-equipped playground,  community garden, and many other amenities. It is a great place to slow down with the family and have a nice picnic while enjoying together time on your vacation.

Get in with the local crowd at Concerts in the Pines on Saturday evenings June through September.

Pinecrest Lake is a short, 20 minute drive from Twain Harte, and a popular spot for boating, fishing and just about any other aquatic activity you can think of. Pinecrest Lake Resort offers a wide selection of amenities. Rent a fishing boat, grab some tackle, and head out in search of a trophy catch. Or rent some kayaks and enjoy a peaceful paddle on the scenic lake. Horse lovers can enjoy horseback riding in Aspen Meadows Pack Station spring-fall. When you're ready to eat, be sure to stop at nearby Mia's for delicious pizza, seafood, steaks, and more.

Twain Harte has one-of-a-kind shops to satisfy your need for a great souvenir or the perfect gift to take home. Stop by the Harte of the Kitchen to find unique cooking goods or The Walk-in Closet for a new outfit to remember your trip with.

The Harte of the Kitchen

Twain Harte has a diverse and unique food scene. Reserve a table at The Branch, which offers signature, multi-course Chef's Tasting Menu dinners with seasonally rotating menus by their classically trained, Bay Area Chef, Matt Garcia. The Eproson House has been the staple of mountain dining in the Sierra since 1930 and features steaks, seafood, fresh pasta dishes, and salads. For a quick, casual treat, The Haps Boba Tea & Bites serves up a large selection of colorful boba/bubble tea and other specialty drinks, plus bubble waffles, Japanese crepes, and much more.

There's no play like snow play, and Twain Harte is right next to a pair of excellent spots for that in the winter. Leland High Sierra Snow Play is a full-service, lift-assisted snow park with a ton of tubing space; 15 acres to be exact. The groomed hills make for epic tube runs.

Dodge Ridge Mountain Resort is a favorite local spot and the closest ski resort to the San Francisco Bay Area. It's a great place to bring the kids looking to learn about the joys of skiing in a friendly atmosphere, as they've been teaching the next generation of skiers for several generations now. The resort also has disc golf and hiking trails in the summer.
